Hôtel de Crillon in one minute
Crillon is one of the strongest choices for travelers who want Parisian history to feel architectural rather than theatrical. The building was commissioned in the 18th century, Place de la Concorde is literally outside the door, and its best suites turn that heritage into something highly individual — from Karl Lagerfeld’s Grands Appartements to the Bernstein, Louis XV and Marie-Antoinette suites.
Where it is less dominant is in the headline-amenity arms race. George V and Cheval Blanc currently have much deeper Michelin-starred dining ecosystems; Cheval Blanc also has the longer documented pool and a more overt family setup. Crillon instead makes its case through intimacy, design, history and location.

A monument first, a hotel since 1909
An 18th-century Paris landmark
The building was commissioned by King Louis XV in 1758 and designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel. It later became the residence of the family of the Count of Crillon before opening as a hotel in 1909.
Only 124 accommodations
Crillon combines 78 rooms, 36 suites and 10 Signature Suites. That puts it between the 72-key intimacy of Cheval Blanc and the much larger 243-room Four Seasons George V.
The 2017 restoration matters
After a four-year restoration, the hotel reopened in 2017 under Rosewood. The result deliberately mixes protected historical fabric with contemporary interiors rather than recreating a museum-like version of the past.
The Signature Suites are the real reason to study the room map
Standard rooms give you the Crillon address and residential French style; the most distinctive suites give you something much harder to reproduce elsewhere: monumental terraces, historical narratives, Eiffel Tower views and, in the Grands Appartements, Karl Lagerfeld’s own interpretation of 18th-century French luxury.

Les Grands Appartements are not a generic designer collaboration
Karl Lagerfeld designed the hotel’s Grands Appartements as his own interpretation of French 18th-century style. Rosewood describes bespoke Lagerfeld furniture, highly individualized bathrooms and expansive Paris views, including the Eiffel Tower, Grand Palais, Musée d’Orsay and Place de la Concorde.
The detail that captures the ambition best is almost absurdly physical: Rosewood says one Carrara-marble bathtub was carved from a single slab weighing more than two tonnes and had to be lifted through a window by crane.
A discreet wellness sanctuary beneath a monumental hotel
Sense, A Rosewood Spa includes an indoor pool, steam room, sauna, experience showers and a relaxation area built around a Himalayan salt wall, alongside treatment rooms, fitness and the David Lucas hair salon.
Rosewood’s current official materials emphasize the pool’s residential atmosphere and its 17,600 gold scales but do not publish a pool length. We therefore would not compare its dimensions directly with Cheval Blanc’s verified 30-meter pool or George V’s verified 17-meter pool.
Crillon’s restaurant story is currently in transition
This is exactly the kind of detail that can become stale on hotel-review sites. The Crillon’s current 2026 dining lineup is different from the one many older reviews describe.
Nonos & Comestibles

La Cave
A private dining room surrounded by the hotel’s wine collection, intended for intimate events rather than functioning as a conventional restaurant.
Do not rely on old L’Écrin reviews
Rosewood’s current dining navigation no longer lists L’Écrin, and the official 2026 Michelin starred-restaurant list does not include it among Paris’s starred restaurants. Alan Taudon took over the hotel’s culinary direction from June 1, 2026.
More family-oriented than its historic façade suggests
Rosewood currently operates Le Petit Crillon, a family program built around activities and discovery for younger guests. The room inventory also includes dedicated family configurations: the Deluxe Family Suite, for example, combines two bedrooms, two separate living rooms and two marble bathrooms across 100 m², for up to six guests.
That makes the Crillon credible for families who want a smaller, historic Palace. Cheval Blanc remains more explicit as a kids-club hotel, while Crillon’s advantage is combining family practicality with a much stronger heritage atmosphere.
Place de la Concorde gives Crillon one of Paris’s most theatrical front doors
Hôtel de Crillon occupies 10 Place de la Concorde, 75008 Paris, facing one of the city’s grandest monumental spaces. Booking.com currently places both the Tuileries Garden and Champs-Élysées at roughly 300 meters, with the Louvre around 1.5 km away.
Choose Crillon for location if…
You want Tuileries, Place de la Concorde, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and easy access toward both the Louvre and Champs-Élysées, with monumental Paris literally outside the entrance.
Choose Ritz Paris instead if…
Your idea of Right Bank luxury is specifically Place Vendôme, rue de la Paix and the jewelry district. The two hotels are close geographically but emotionally very different.
