Editorial standards

Paris Finest Hotels Editorial Policy

Our job is to help readers make expensive hotel decisions with clear, useful and independent information. This policy explains the standards we apply to reviews, rankings, comparisons, affiliate links, commercial relationships, corrections and any first-hand hotel experience we publish.

Paris Finest Hotels may earn revenue from selected booking links. Revenue opportunities do not determine which hotels we cover, the order of our rankings or the conclusions of our reviews.

1 · Independence

Editorial decisions come before commercial ones

Hotels are selected, compared and ranked according to editorial relevance to the reader — not according to commission rate, commercial relationship or ease of monetization.

A hotel can rank highly even when we have no affiliate booking relationship with it. A hotel with an affiliate relationship can rank poorly, be excluded from a specialist ranking or receive criticism where warranted.

We do not sell positions in editorial rankings.

2 · Reviews

We do not invent first-hand experience

Unless a page explicitly states that a member of our editorial team stayed at the hotel, our hotel reviews should be understood as research-based editorial reviews.

What we can verify remotely

Room categories, room sizes, advertised views, restaurants, Michelin status, spa facilities, pool dimensions, family services, location, official distinctions and published hotel policies.

What requires first-hand experience

How a mattress feels, whether service felt warm or slow, room soundproofing in practice, breakfast execution, housekeeping consistency or how a treatment personally felt.

We never convert researched facts into fictional personal anecdotes. If we did not experience something directly, we do not write as if we did.
3 · Rankings

Our rankings are editorial judgments, not paid placements

Every “Best Hotels” page is built around a specific traveler intent. The hotel that ranks first overall does not automatically rank first for families, couples, spas, Eiffel Tower views or Michelin-starred dining.

We do not use one universal numerical score because that would create false precision. Instead, rankings are based on the criteria relevant to the page and are explained in the article.

A commercial partner receives no ranking guarantee. Payment, commission or a complimentary experience cannot purchase a higher position.

4 · Comparisons

Head-to-head articles are written to make a choice

Our comparison pages are designed for readers who have already narrowed their shortlist to two hotels.

We compare the differences that materially change a stay — location, scale, atmosphere, room design, views, spa, pool, restaurants, family experience and traveler fit — rather than repeating each hotel’s full review.

Where two hotels are genuinely equal on a criterion, we say so. We do not manufacture a winner simply to make a comparison look more decisive.

5 · Sources

We prefer primary and authoritative sources

Claim type Preferred source
Rooms, suites, spa, family services Current official hotel website
Michelin restaurant stars Current MICHELIN Guide
Official French Palace status Atout France
Hotel history & renovation Hotel archives, press materials and authoritative primary documentation
Current booking availability Official hotel and major booking platforms

When two credible sources disagree, we do not silently choose the version that makes the article cleaner. Where the discrepancy matters to the traveler, we explain it.

6 · Affiliate links

How affiliate revenue works

Some booking links on Paris Finest Hotels are affiliate links. If a reader makes an eligible booking after following one of those links, we may receive a commission.

The reader’s booking price and the hotel’s editorial position are separate questions. Whether a hotel currently has an affiliate booking route does not determine whether we recommend it.

When an affiliate booking option is unavailable, we may link directly to the hotel’s official website.

7 · Complimentary stays & experiences

If a hotel hosts us, we disclose it

If Paris Finest Hotels accepts a complimentary or discounted stay, meal, spa treatment, event invitation or other material hospitality from a hotel or hospitality group, that relationship should be clearly disclosed in the relevant editorial content where it could reasonably affect a reader’s interpretation.

Hosting does not guarantee positive coverage, inclusion in a ranking or a particular conclusion.

A complimentary stay buys access, not an opinion.
8 · Sponsored content

Advertising must look like advertising

If we publish content that is paid for by a hotel, travel company or other commercial partner, it should be clearly identified as sponsored or advertising content.

Sponsored content should not be presented as an independent hotel review, independent comparison or organic editorial ranking.

We do not allow paid content to silently alter the conclusions of an independent article.

9 · Conflicts of interest

Relevant relationships should be disclosed

Writers and editors should disclose material relationships that could reasonably call their independence into question, including significant commercial relationships, employment relationships, substantial gifts or other direct interests connected to a hotel being covered.

Where a conflict cannot be managed through transparency, the appropriate response may be to assign the article or decision to another editor.

10 · Hotel feedback

Hotels may correct facts, not approve opinions

Hotels and hospitality groups are welcome to flag factual errors and provide current documentation.

We may contact a hotel to verify a fact, clarify a policy or resolve contradictory information. However, an independent review or ranking does not require hotel approval before publication.

We will consider

Corrections to room counts, restaurant status, chef information, spa facilities, policies, official distinctions, opening dates and other verifiable facts.

We will not negotiate

A ranking position, an editorial verdict or removal of a substantiated trade-off simply because a hotel dislikes the conclusion.

11 · Corrections

Material errors are corrected

If we identify a factual error that could influence a booking decision, we correct it as soon as reasonably possible.

Examples include an incorrect Michelin star, outdated Palace status, wrong pool length, a restaurant described as open when it is closed or a room category incorrectly described as having an Eiffel Tower view.

Where a correction materially changes the recommendation, the surrounding editorial analysis should be reviewed as well — not just the isolated sentence.

12 · Updates

We do not refresh dates just to make pages look new

An updated date should reflect a meaningful factual or editorial review, such as a Michelin change, major renovation, new kids program, restaurant closure, spa change or revised ranking.

Changing a publication date without materially reviewing the content is not our editorial standard.

13 · Photos & media

Images must have a legitimate usage basis

We aim to use photography and other media that we are entitled to publish, such as original material, appropriately licensed media, authorized press assets or assets supplied for permitted editorial or affiliate use.

Being able to find an image online does not automatically mean it is available for reuse.

14 · Reader trust

What we will not do

No fabricated stays

We do not pretend to have slept, eaten or received a treatment somewhere when we have not.

No paid ranking positions

A hotel cannot purchase #1, inclusion in a Top 3 or a favorable comparison verdict.

No invented facts

We do not guess pool lengths, view guarantees, current Michelin stars or hotel classifications.

No hidden sponsorship

Paid commercial content should not masquerade as independent editorial coverage.

No affiliate-first recommendations

The easiest hotel to monetize is not automatically the hotel we recommend.

No fake certainty

Where information is unclear or changing, we qualify the claim rather than presenting uncertainty as fact.

Editorial promise

The standard we want every article to meet

A Paris Finest Hotels article should help a reader understand what is true, what is our judgment and what still needs to be confirmed before booking.

That standard matters more to us than making every hotel sound perfect. Luxury travel is expensive; useful editorial work should make the trade-offs clearer, not hide them.
