The Ritz sells a sense of place no newer hotel can manufacture
Place Vendôme is part of the experience
The hotel occupies 15 Place Vendôme in Paris’s 1st arrondissement. For luxury shopping, rue de la Paix, rue Saint-Honoré, haute joaillerie and the symbolic center of classic Paris luxury, the location is difficult to replicate.
Its history is not decorative branding
César Ritz opened the hotel in 1898 with Auguste Escoffier as its founding chef. Coco Chanel, Ernest Hemingway and Marcel Proust are embedded in the hotel’s history rather than added later as a marketing theme.
Sixteen Prestige Suites create real identity
The hotel has 142 keys in total, including 16 Prestige Suites named for people or places connected with the Ritz story. That gives the top end of the room inventory more personality than a conventional suite ladder.

A classic hotel pool with a very different proposition from Cheval Blanc
The Ritz Club & Spa centers on a 16-meter indoor pool heated to 30°C, with underwater music. The wellness facilities also include sauna, steam room, fitness, treatments, a nail bar and hair salon.
The pool is beautiful and substantial enough to matter, but it is not a scale play. Cheval Blanc’s 30-meter pool is the stronger option if lap-swimming length is a deciding factor; the Ritz wins when the atmosphere and historic hotel setting matter more than the dimensions.
The Ritz experience extends well beyond its Michelin-starred restaurant
Cheval Blanc currently has the deeper Michelin-star count, but reducing the Ritz to its single Michelin star misses the point. Here, the bars, tea ritual and restaurant history are part of the hotel’s competitive advantage.
Espadon
Chef Eugénie Béziat leads the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant, which holds one Michelin star in the 2026 Guide and opens onto the Grand Jardin.
Bar Hemingway
A tiny, deliberately intimate cocktail bar with just 25 seats, leather armchairs and a direct connection to the writer whose name it carries. The official hotel page currently operates it without reservations.
Salon Proust
The hotel’s dedicated Parisian tea room — a stronger fit for travelers who want the Ritz’s cultural mythology as much as a conventional afternoon tea.
Bar Vendôme
The all-day classic: breakfast through dinner, with a more relaxed brasserie identity than Espadon and a direct connection to the hotel’s central social life.
Auguste Escoffier

Family-capable, but not family-first
The hotel can arrange customized babysitting through qualified professionals, and large suites can obviously accommodate family travel at the highest end. But the Ritz does not offer the same dedicated kids-club proposition as Cheval Blanc’s Le Carrousel.
